Linkedin.com works: work for a tyrant in Nigeria!
By Nick Hodge | September 14, 2007
Spam received today:
My name is Mr Kelvin K. Williams i'm an online representative for Wills Buldings & Co., which is located in Nigeria and Korea. I'm sending you this email in other to notify you that the organisation is making a search for a very good worker in AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND that will be dealing on handling payments from any of our AUSTRALIA or NEW ZEALAND clients.
We have turned down alot of offers from AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND clients after we have lost a cashier in a car accident. So the COE came to a conclution of searching for a worker in AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND Country that will work and follow the companies obligations.
If you are interested feel free to email: kelvindgreat.tyrant@graffiti.net or call: +2348054325038 Best Regards Kelvin K. Williams
Dear Mr. Kevin K. Williams
Your offer sounds enticing. Thanks, but no thanks.
Your email address, "kelvindgreat.tyrant" is also off-putting. I have chosen to work for organisations and managers that are not tyrants.
Next time when you spam, ensure you pick someone who is not working in a country with <5% unemployment. And an employee who hates their job and falls for spam such as yours.
Yours
Nick Hodge

Hey, look at that - +234 is Nigeria.
There's also two pages of hits when you do a search for that number...
I'm guessing it's probably a premium number of some sort.

Prolly a good call that I didn't call that number then. Especially from work.
Now that would have caused a minor HR incident!
I *would* have been looking for teh RoR jobs!

The day after I signed up to LinkedIn, I started to get a daily spam message, not like this though. I unsubscribed and the spam messages stopped, yet I still have a working login. I never received spam ever since I went Broadband Cable, even though I have zapped my email address to hundreds of websites (not forums or newsgroups though). LinkedIn is so far the only one that has created spam for me, and hence am a little suspicious of its email address security, in spite of the almost unlimited access to career opportunities.
Through googling, I found this "Job Opportunity" also made a post in a Napple.com forum (GPE Handhelds) as well as to SpamAlert. No reply though!

Thomas
I should have been clearer about not particular blaming linkedin.com (as I think its a good service)
My email address was harvested from this web site: I've not received Linkedin.com spam.
This particular piece of spam arrived in my Outlook "Junk Mail" at my microsoft.com address. I purposely look at my Junk Mail, well, when I am bored
On linkedin.com, I have not used my @microsoft.com email address.
Just my observations.
