Loving this MacBook Pro

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Still the first week (honeymoon period?) with my new MacBook Pro. It has to be the fastest Mac I've owned. Usually, the laptops Apple made have been dissappointing in the performance department.

Thanks to Darwin Ports, the MacBook Pro is now loaded with all the equivilent development tools; easily installed and managed.

QuarkXpress 7. Disappointing.

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

According to MacWorld in the US, QuarkXpress 7.0 sucks. Just like Mission Impossible 3, it hasn't been worth the wait.
Unfortunately, XPress 7 does not represent a significant leap forward.

My Mac History

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

1984: Original Macintosh 128K purchased by my Dad from the great Tim Kleemann (thanks, Dad and Tim!). Later upgraded to 512K with the expanded ROM. I still have the System 1.0/Finder 1.0 disks around somewhere.
1986: Macintosh Plus: A massive 1Mb of RAM; I transported an external 20Mb hard drive from work to home. Remeber programming [...]

Site Design Changed

Monday, May 15th, 2006

The base design of www.nickhodge.com has changed. More work with the changed URLs from last week, plus a new image courtesy Mark Szulc taken at Kare Kare, NZ. Worked on the CSS; using a three column liquid layout. Any errors, or misrenderings. Just email.
Update, 16th June 2006: fixed issues with CSS when being browsed [...]

URLs have Changed

Friday, May 12th, 2006

Thanks to an email from Ola, and some research; I've taken the liberty to change the URL format on www.nickhodge.com. Using a posting on Modrewrite Forums: Complicated .htaccess, it was a simple matter and 15 lines of Modrewrite for Apache, we're off!

Soduko for InDesign

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

Rorohiko in Wellington have released a new plugin for InDesign: a must have for publishers. Lightning Brain Sudoku for InDesign CS/CS2. Like crosswords, I don't really "get it" - but this, the Da Vinci Code and Suri are all the rage at the moment.
